Sunday Inspiration: Growing and Crowing in Yoga

It’s important to set goals for yourself, regardless of how plausible you think they might be. That being said, it’s also important to know your limits, especially your body’s limit. When practicing yoga the worst thing you can do is push yourself too hard. Just like everything else in life, you need to find a balance. In this case, I needed to find an arm balance. So, I decided that I wanted to master the crow pose. Have I mastered it yet? Absolutely not, but I am definitely getting much better. For such scrawny arms, I’ve been pleasantly surprised to find that they can hold up much more than I anticipated. I suppose that just goes to show that you’re more capable of doing difficult things than you think.

I’ve still got oodles to go, but I haven’t blogged about anything yoga-related recently and I think this blog is a good place to keep myself accountable. Balancing poses look hard, but they’re really more of a mental exercise than a physical one. I think balancing poses are a great way to re-center yourself if you ever find yourself disheveled and stressed. They require proper breathing, intense concentration, and an open mind. So, I leave y’all with this inspirational quote and a short video of part of today’s flow. Excuse the messiness of my flow, I’m out of practice.

You have been told that, even like a chain, you are as weak as your weakest link.
This is but half the truth. You are also as strong as your strongest link.
To measure you by your smallest deed is to reckon the power of an ocean by the frailty of its foam.
To judge you by your failures is to cast blame upon the seasons for their inconsistency.
